Hello!

An dream come true, I am flying to Greenland for a few days.
I am starting my journey in Copenhagen, flying with the Air Greenland A330-200 (Registration number: OY-GRN ) to Kangerlussuaq. Flight time about 4 hours and 20 minutes.
Kangerlussuaq is the biggest Airport in Greenland and the only Airport with connection to Europe (There are a few flights from/to Iceland – but nevermind).
From Kangerlussuaq Air Greenland is flying to Aasiaat, Ilulissat, Kulusuk, Maniitsoq, Nuuk and Sisimiut. Kangerlussuaq is also an alternate airport for many International flights from Europe to America (in case of an emergency) and is located on the west coast of Greenland.

East Greenland seen from the airplane.
The Ice on Greenland is up to 3km (!) thick and if they whole Ice on Greenland would melt, the sea level would rise about 7m (!).

Kangerlussuaq is like an aircraft carrier approach, 😀 It`s only possible to land from the sea side.

After the arrival my connection flight to Ilulissat was cancelled due to heavy snow in Ilulissat. I had to wait for about 4 hours and then i finally arrived in the hotel a few hours later.
There was already dark, so no photos from this flight. 🙂

Next day i went with an tourguide to the Ilulissat Ice fjord. The Icebergs can be up to 150m high (London eye 135m) and only 10-15% is visible. So you only can imagine how big they are under the water.
Sometimes, especially in summer, they rotate due an other center of gravitiy because they melt and parts of the Ice berg break off.
So that you have an Idea how big and how dangerous (Tsunami waves) this really is, please watch this Video on YouTube: Video.

The Icebergs break off from the Jakobshavn Glacier, located about 70km away from the city. Everyday 86 Mio (!) tons of ice break off this glacier. The Icebergs need about 3-12 Months from the glacier to the open water. Its most likely that the Titanic crashed into one of these Icebergs.
